A Personal Letter
A few thoughts from the President of KamadoCraft.

I look at my Kamado grill sitting on the deck everyday. That's because it's become one of my hobbies...a passionate one to be sure. Kamado grills transcend all other outdoor cooking methods. If you consider all the variations of time and temperature, then multiply them by the number of the foods, marinades, brines and rubs that can be used, the possibilities are endless.

I've been a charcoal griller for 30 years and never embraced the "fast food" style of using a gas grill. The reason is taste. I love the taste that charcoal infuses in the food.

I discovered the Kamado style of cooking and bought a Kamado Joe. I knew Kamado grills were around for years, and anyone who grills has heard of the Big Green Egg. I just never researched the features and benefits of them over briquette charcoal grills. The Weber and I were pretty happy.

When I started using my Kamado Joe, I knew it was something I was going to grow into, even with my background of outdoor cooking. I am by no means an expert on Kamado cooking...I'm just a big fan who loves to experiment.

Last year, I started looking at grill tables. I wanted more space and being new to Kamado cooking I thought there must be hundreds of choices in grill tables. I found out quickly, that was not the case. There were a few attractive ones and some were like mini outdoor kitchens.

On the other side of the spectrum, there are the "screwed and glued" types and I felt I would end up like the first word for this type in a few years if I bought one. The wood ends up turning gray and curling or cupping, and they are susceptible to mold and mildew. The only options are to use pressure-treated lumber or paint it. Neither are very attractive to me. And you can't use surface coatings like polyurethane, because they eventually flake and cloud. I found that out in my finish testing.

Beyond these drawbacks, I thought most of them looked like a rolling work bench. Don't get me wrong, I like work benches and I've had a few. I just don't want one on my deck. I'm not a snob, I just prefer exceptional design and quality workmanship. Exotic wood fascinates me...each board is like a snowflake...no two grain patterns are the same.

All of this brought me to start KamadoCraft. I wanted a grill table I could be proud of, to showcase my Kamado grill and be the centerpiece of my deck. After a year of research, testing and other product development issues I arrived at the right combination of design, materials and workmanship.

All of our grill tables are hand made, use earth-friendly wood and finishing products, and they're made right here in America. In my eyes, these grill tables are a true work of art. When I oil my grill table, I get the same level of satisfaction and excitement that I feel when I wax my old muscle car. Both are worthy to be called art, and I get a great deal of enjoyment from both..

If you love Kamado cooking, and you appreciate and understand the value of solid wood handcrafted furniture, we'd like to build one for you.

Grill well and grill often.
